Rosy Hodge nabs 5th at Reef, requalifies for World Tour
Rosy Hodge Scores a Fifth Place at Reef Hawaiian Pro, Requalifies for 2009 World Tour!
East London-born World Tour surfer Rosy Hodge placed a well-deserved fifth-place in the Reef Hawaiian Pro to secure her berth on the Women’s World Tour for 2009. At the time of going to press Rosy was sitting a very comfortable third place on the World Qualifying Series ratings, and is a confirmed starter on the 2009 tour.
The venue for the final day of surfing was Haleiwa’s Ali’I Beach Park, where highly contestable four to five-foot waves poured through, breaking both left and right. Rosy was on top of her game and surfed great throughout the event, advancing all the way to the semi finals. In the second semi, Rosy placed third behind eventual event winner Carissa Moore from Hawaii and 7-time world champion Layne Beachley, who went on to place second in the event.
This left Rosy with a fifth place finish in the event and a secured berth on the Women’s World Tour 2009 – the pinnacle of female professional surfing. The ASP World Tour consists of 17 of the best competitive female surfers in the world, a very prestigious club of which Rosy is a member for the third year in a row.
“We’re really proud of Rosy and everything she has accomplished while building her surfing career,” said Candice Mac Nicol, Roxy South Africa’s Marketing Manager. “Rosy really is the epitome of the Roxy surfer and lifestyle; fun, carefree, naturally beautiful and caring. And she’s a great surfer!”
Rosy, currently still in Hawaii, is also stoked with her requalification. “I’m really happy about requalifying, so I can concentrate on the World Tour now,” said a happy Rosy. “Things went really well for me on the WQS this year, but I struggled a bit on the World Tour, with my boards not arriving for 2 of the events. On the whole I have been really enjoying myself this year, and I’m finding my groove, so hopefully I can keep improving.”
There are still two women’s World Tour events this year, the Roxy Pro at Sunset Beach Hawaii, and the Billabong Pro on Maui. “I’m going to really concentrate on these two events,” said Rosy. “It is my goal to finish in the top 10 for the year.”

Merry Xmas Rosy
I’m ten years old and my mum and Dad bought me one of your boards for Xmas. It is my first fibre glass board and I took it out at North Curl Curl where I live this morning after I unwrapped it. It was the one with the colourful swirls all the way down the board with a bird at the bottom also a sign saying Nick Blair. I am wondering if you won any competitions on this board or did it travel wit you to any amazing surf locations (like pipeline)? I hope you had a nice Xmas day like I did with my family
from Sienna
Hey Sienna! Im so happy you enjoying your new board. North Curly is my favorite North Sydney beach! That board was made specially for me by Nick and I got some awesome waves on it on the Gold Coast and all over Aus. Have fun and Im sure I will see you in the water some time.
Hi Rosy
Great to hear from you. Good luck on the gold coast soon. I’m taking my board to Noosa for 2 weeks at Easter time. Look forward to seeing you at north Curly some day soon.
